Book Review: Beyond All Dreams by Elizabeth Camden

I can’t even tell you how thrilling it is to read my favorite authors then get to tell you all about their latest books!

Heaven is going to look a little bit like that for me.

Books, books, and more books!  :)

Oh. Right. The book review…

So…I have a confession to make.

I’ve been a little bored with historical fiction lately.

I know–I know!  It is one of the best-selling genres in Christian fiction, and everybody who’s anybody reads it.

But, I mean, come on.  Boy meets girl, their feelings for each other sizzle like electricity, some huge obstacle gets thrown in their path–you have no idea if their relationship is going to make it–then happily ever after bells are heard soon after they make up.

It wouldn’t be a romance without that blessed formula, and, let’s face it.  I wouldn’t be satisfied if they didn’t get their happily ever after.

But now EVERY romance is is just the SAME. Or so it feels.

Not so with Elizabeth Camden.

Her books are just–different.

Sure, the “formula” is there, but she makes the story so stinkin’ fascinating, you don’t have time to be bored.

History comes alive.  The obstacles she hurls in the hero’s and heroine’s paths are so atrocious, you really don’t think they are getting back together.

And she is one of the very few authors that I read each and any book she writes.

Which brings me to her latest work: Beyond All Dreams.

Anna is a shy, quiet map librarian at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., and Luke is a boisterous, loud, and outgoing politician. Exact opposites.

When the Navy threatens Anna for getting involved in something that doesn’t concern her–the disappearance of her father–Luke attempts to stand up for her as her “knight in shining armor,” only to find his hands tied with national secrets.

Their glaringly opposite personalities clash and sizzle in page-turning sparring, and the mystery behind her father’s disappearance keeps the reader glued to the book till the very last page.

I’m telling you, I just couldn’t put this book down.

I loved this book so much, you guys. In fact, I can’t remember an Elizabeth Camden book I haven’t enjoyed.

Thank you, Lord, for authors who make their books come alive and write outside the “norm.”
